Highway #1

Reclaimed wood from the Saskatchewan prairies.

This art piece makes me feel nostalgic. Working periodically in the prairies, but living in British Columbia, I drive the #1 highway fairly often. It’s always an experience: going across the seemingly endless wide open plains of central Canada and then suddenly hitting the dramatic landscape change that is the Rockies. I think with this art piece I wanted to encapsulate that feeling you get about 30 minutes west of Calgary when you see that jaw-dropping landscape just a little further down the road and you finally feel like you can just… exhale. The mountains carry such a powerful, all-encompassing energy. It’s obvious why most of us are wildly drawn to them. I hope my Alberta & Saskatchewan friends know exactly what feeling I’m talking about.
